Introduction to Milling Your Own Lumber Saturday, June 18, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm with Mark Olson Tuition: $35, Materials: $30 Ever wondered how a huge, gnarled old pine becomes handsome wall board & fine furnishings? In this class, you’ll learn all about the milling process and witness the operation of a Wood Mizer portable mill. First we’ll discuss sourcing options for local logs and the different cutting configurations for maximizing the volume & quality of lumber from a milled tree. Then you’ll join in operating the Wood Mizer for hands-on experience with how the cuts are made to produce fine saw timber. You’ll leave the course with a large blank of lumber milled to your specs that you can craft for a home project. Instructor Mark Olson has been crafting wood for over 20 years. The course will take place in Winton alongside the beautiful new timberframe workshop he’s built from lumber he milled himself and ceiling boards recycled from Sigurd Olson’s Border Lakes Outfitting building.
