Building an Eco-Friendly House

September 13, 2019 | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Are you intrigued by how to build sustainably? The Ely Folk School is collaborating with Andy and Paula Hill who are building an affordable, energy-efficient, environmentally-responsible home within the city limits of Ely. They are offering the opportunity for people to come learn about sustainable building practices by getting involved in the process.
September will give opportunities to learn how to install solar hot water with photovoltaic panels including the appliance information, mechanical installation and water recovery system.
Bring work gloves, wear sturdy shoes, safety glasses, rain gear if needed, hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

About the instructor: For Andy Hill, this project will be the culmination of 50 years of experience building and remodeling homes. He has implemented creative sustainable practices in the homes he has built as a general contractor along with his previous off-the-grid homestead located outside of Ely. He has taught sustainable living classes and Northwoods gardening at the Ely Folk School. He is a qualified solar installer.
