Summer’s Planetary Parade
Friday, July 20 2018
8:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Tuition: $20 No Materials Fee

Four bright planets captivate our attention at dusk this summer: Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. Mars will be at its brightest and closet in more than 15 years. We will meet at the Folk School and view a slide presentation of the evening sky. We will then go to the Ely golf course parking lot to view the planets through a telescope, weather permitting. Dress appropriately. Bring bug spray if desired.

About the Instructor: Bob King has enjoyed the night sky and astronomy since childhood and made the stars his lifetime hobby. He chose photojournalism as his vocation and has been photo editor at the Duluth New Tribue since 1990. He writes a regular astronomy blog called Astro Bob, teaches astronomy classes in community education at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and also writes for the online astronomy websites Universe Today and Sky & Telescope. His book Night sky with the Naked Eye, is an activity-based book aimed at both beginning and amateur astonomers.
