Autumn in Ely – a season of discovery in which to experience blue skies, crisp clean air, the wisps of wood smoke and Mother Nature’s brilliant display as the leaves take on melting hues of green, yellow, orange and red.
Autumn in Ely also brings the Harvest Moon Festival, which takes place the first weekend after Labor Day in Whiteside Park. This is a three day festival filled with arts and crafts, food, live entertainment and activities to share with family and friends of all ages. Over 10,000 people join us to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and the fun and activities of this event.
Shop a delightful mix of original art and crafts from over 125 local and regional artists and craftsmen. Select from functional and decorative pottery, hand turned wooden bowls, Native American art and bead work, paintings, leather and lots more! Enjoy demonstrations by the Ely Folk School featuring skills needed to live a traditional northwoods life at the turn of the century. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo for children and family entertainment presented by Magic Village shows. The stage show has magic, ventriloquism, escapes, comdey and audience participation. Listen to music by the Singing Slovenes with guest button box player Gaspher Krek, direct from Slovenia, also enjoy songs from the Voyageurs and logging camps as you weave through the many booths to find that perfect piece for your home or that unique gift for a loved one.
Feast your eyes on a delightful combination of orange pumpkins, purple chrysanthemums, yellow corn, juicy red tomatoes, and tasty artisan breads from the Saturday Farm Market. Tempt your palette with a french toast breakfast, Italian sausage piled high with sautéed onions and peppers, barbecued pork sandwiches, and more. Top it off with a cup of latte and a piece of blueberry pie made fresh the day before the festival.
It is a beautiful time of the year to make it a weekend of fun. Come into town and enjoy shopping for locally made merchandise, great outdoor gear, books by local authors and dining in one of our fine restaurants. We invite you to the small town at the end of the road for our Harvest Moon Festival as we say farewell to summer and festively ring in the fall. Come and experience the sights, sounds and smells of autumn in Ely for this end of the summer party you don’t want to miss!
