Sports

With the great outdoors full of trail systems and waterways throughout our expansive wilderness, two questions come into play. What time of the year are you planning your Ely adventure and are you a silent sport type or enjoy being motorized — or both?

For those preferring our warmer months and silent sports, consider hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, birding ... just to make a few suggestions. Motorized activities also have an abundance of opportunities with boating and ATVs at the forefront of the adventure list.

Winter brings snow-covered trails and frozen lakes for a rugged adventure setting. Cross country skiing, kick sledding, snowshoeing, dog sledding, fat tire biking and good old-fashioned sledding are some of Ely’s favorites. Those traveling by snowmobile will find hundreds of miles of local and state trails to experience the frosty North Woods, too.

Regardless of the time of season or mode of travel, Ely has an incredible natural setting as a backdrop with room for any adventure you have in mind.
Whatever you'd like to do, bring your inner adventurer to Ely and get ready to play outside!
